1. Participants Agreements

Informed Consent

  • I attest that I am over the age of 18.

  • I attest, to the best of my knowledge, that I have no physical or psychological condition that would preclude me from taking this course.

  • I understand that I am registering for an instructional course that may involve physical, emotional, and psychological activities and that, in all such undertakings, there is always a risk involved.

  • I understand that the instructional staff cannot always monitor my physical, emotional, and psychological state, and I am therefore responsible for assessing the risk that any activity poses for me and for choosing a safe course of action and self-care.

  • I understand that I can always choose to refrain from any activity that might become overly stressful and/or risky for me.

  • I understand that due to the nature of this course, there may be physical contact between the instructional staff and participants, or participant to participant in educational exercises. I understand I always have the right to refuse or decline to be touched or use touch in educational exercises.

Educational activities vs clinical therapy / healing practices

  • Participants may use their own experiences with the understanding that they are not receiving therapy, are deciding freely what information to share, and take responsibility for whatever issues or dysregulation should emerge in the exercise.

  • Although personal issues may come up, activities are for educational purposes, not therapeutic purposes, and any resulting therapeutic change is a byproduct of the learning.

2. Guidelines for Participation

Jorba Counseling is committed to creating a courageous and safe enough space for learning.

  • Honor your own pace. Stay within what feels manageable in your body; pause, step out, or modify as needed.

  • Respect others’ rhythms. No comparing, pressuring, or interpreting another person’s experience. Treat them with courtesy and respect.

  • Confidentiality is non-negotiable. Share your own story, never someone else’s. Consent leads everything. Ask before touch, movement, or offering feedback; accept “no” without question.

  • Use embodied language. Speak from sensation and present-time experience rather than analysis or diagnosis.

  • Hold cultural humility. Assume you don’t know another person’s context; be curious, not corrective.

  • Center regulation over performance. If you become overwhelmed, orient, ground, or step outside—re-enter when ready.

  • Make space, don’t take over. Contribute, but let the group breathe; leave room for quieter voices.

  • Avoid fixing or rescuing. Witness with presence instead of offering solutions or interpretations.

  • Technology boundaries. Phones silent; no recording of others at any time.

  • Shared responsibility for safety. If something feels off or unclear, bring it to the facilitator—your awareness supports the whole field.

For touch trainings:

  • Touch is always optional. No one is ever expected to give or receive touch; all participation can be done through proximity, imagery, or witnessing.

  • Consent is specific, moment-to-moment. A “yes” can shift; check in verbally and non-verbally before, during, and after touch.

  • Touch has purpose. Any physical contact must serve regulation, awareness, or the exercise—not comfort-seeking, caretaking, or personal preference.

  • Stay within the agreed zones. Only touch areas explicitly permitted in the demo or exercise; when in doubt, don’t.

  • Endings matter. Both people signal when touch is complete; withdraw slowly so the body can integrate.

Participants who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to leave the training at my discretion to ensure the safety and integrity of the group.

3. Intellectual Property

The intellectual property of Jorba Counseling and Laia Jorba includes, but is not limited to: written and digital training materials, videos, Power Point slides, papers and articles, exercises, illustrations, manuals, and handouts.

  • I agree to refrain from distributing Jorba Counseling’s intellectual property.

  • I agree to gain advanced, written permission (no less than 30 days from the date of the event) from Jorba Counseling if I wish to use slides or handouts from any Jorba Counseling workshop in other spaces.

  • I agree to cite and reference Laia Jorba or Jorba Counseling whenever I paraphrase or quote intellectual property in presentations, workshops, research, and in written publications.
