SENSORIMOTOR PSYCHOTHERAPY: BECAUSE WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a body-centered approach to trauma treatment that integrates somatic awareness with emotional and cognitive processing. Developed by Pat Ogden in the 1980s, SP builds on somatic traditions, attachment theory, and mindfulness to address how trauma and relational patterns lives in posture, movement, and nervous system patterns. Through attuned observation of physical sensations and relational dynamics, therapists help clients recognize and transform implicit body memories into conscious, regulated experience. Its training progresses from nervous-system stabilization and resourcing to developmental, attachment, and integrative work, offering a deeply relational and embodied framework for healing. Expansive in scope, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy provides a structure flexible enough to include transgenerational exploration and spiritual dimensions of experience, making it a powerful modality for integrating the personal, ancestral, and transcendent layers of trauma and repair.

TRAUMA TRAINING

FOCUS OF THE TRAINING

Level 1 trauma training introduces accessible, body-oriented interventions for tracking, naming, and safely exploring trauma-related somatic activation. Through experiential learning, students develop foundational skills to recognize and work with limiting body patterns, disrupted cognitive and emotional processes, and the fragmented sense of self often present in trauma. By the end of the course, participants will be able to apply core Sensorimotor Psychotherapy techniques to support clients in distress and adapt these tools for a range of clinical contexts with confidence and sensitivity.

DEVELOPMENTAL WORK

FOCUS OF THE TRAINING

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 2 focuses on healing developmental and relational injuries by integrating the body’s wisdom with emotional and cognitive processes. This training explores how early adversity, attachment disruptions, and broader sociocultural or transgenerational factors shape patterns of relationship, emotion, and meaning. Students learn to recognize somatic and psychological adaptations that arise from these experiences and to work skillfully with implicit memories, attachment dynamics, and unresolved grief. By the end of the training, participants can conceptualize developmental and relational trauma through personal, familial, cultural, and collective lenses, applying Sensorimotor Psychotherapy techniques to support repair, integration, and fuller engagement in life.
